Packaging waste directive 94/62/EC amendment


On February 8, 2013, Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC was amended by Directive 2013/2/EU to clarify the packaging materials by the list of illustrative example. The chemical requirement is remained unchanged (Sum of cadmium, lead, mercury and chromium (VI) no more than 100mg/kg).

Illustrative example for criterion (i)
u          Packaging:
l           Sweet boxes;
l           Film over wrap around a CD case
l           Glass bottles for injection solutions
l           Clothes hangers (sold with a clothing item)
l           CD spindles (sold with CDs, not intended to be used as storage)
u          Non-packaging:
l           Tool boxes
l           Tea bags
l           Clothes hangers (sold separately)
l           CD spindles (sold empty, intended to be used as storage

Illustrative example for criterion (ii)
u          Packaging, if designed and intended to be filled at the point of sale:
l           Paper or plastic carrier bags;
l           Disposable plates and cups
l           Sandwich bags
l           Aluminium foil
l           Plastic foil for cleaned clothes in laundries
u          Non-packaging:
l           Stirrer
l           Wrapping paper (sold separately)
l           Paper baking cases (sold empty)
l           Cake doilies sold without a cake

Illustrative example for criterion (iii)
u          Packaging,
l           Sticky labels attached to another packaging item
l           Staples
l           Plastic sleeves
l           Mascara brush which forms part of the container closure
u          Non-packaging:
l           Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags
