ASTM F2923

The cadmium (which is regarded as lead's next hazard heavy metal) in the children jewelry (which is put on children not toy) is getting high concern, the voluntary requirement in US ASTM F2923 is released on Dec 2011. However, it is not yet putted into CPSIA as law yet.

ASTM International approved ASTM F2999-13, “Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Adult Jewelry”. The purpose of the standard is to establish nationally recognized safety requirements and test methods for adult jewelry, including lead content in base materials, heavy metals in surface coatings, and cadmium in certain substrate materials.

This standard applies to jewelry items not subject to ASTM F2923-11, “Children’s Jewelry Safety Standard” which was published November 2011.
