The State of Minnesota has enacted legislation banning the sale of certain children’s products that contain intentionally added formaldehyde or ingredients that release formaldehyde when they degrade. The law defines a children’s product as a product that is physically applied or introduced into a body of a child under eight years of age. It specifically excludes food, beverages, dietary supplements, pharmaceutical products or biologics, toys that are covered by the ASTM F963 standard and medical devices. The ban goes into effect on August 1, 2014 for manufacturers and wholesalers, but it does not apply to retailers until August 1, 2015.
